What You Need
- Eggs
- Clove of garlic
- 2 small bowls
Steps
- Crack an egg into a small bowl.
- Peel a clove of garlic and rub along your fingertips for 5-10 seconds.
- Using your fingertips, pinch the yolk of the egg right in the centre and pull up.
- Once the yolk completely separates from the white, transfer the yolk to the second bowl.
2. Pinch a Slice of Bread
Have the end of a slice of bread lying around? Let's put it it good use with this unbelievable separating trick. We know what you're thinking, how does a piece of bread separate eggs? You might have to see it to believe it.
What You Need
- Eggs
- Slice of bread
- 2 small bowls
Steps
- Crack an egg into a small bowl.
- Rub your fingertips on a slice of bread for 5-10 seconds.
- Using your fingertips, pinch the yolk of the egg right in the centre and pull up.
- Once the yolk completely separates from the white, transfer the yolk to the second bowl.
3. Use an Egg Separator
If you're the type to spend hours scrolling through your feed of home and kitchen gadgets, then why haven't you picked this one up yet!? This egg separator is a time-saving essential for egg lovers.
What You Need
- Eggs
- Egg separator
- 2 small bowls
Steps
- Crack an egg into the separator.
- Tilt the separator to pour out the yolk.
- Repeat with multiple eggs, removing the yolks when needed.
4. Try This Water Bottle Hack
Making a dessert and need an easy way to separate a lot of eggs quickly? You need this trick in your cooking repertoire. All you need is an empty plastic water bottle and a little bit of suction.
What You Need
- Eggs
- Plastic water bottle
- Small bowl
Steps
- Crack your eggs on a flat surface and add them to a bowl.
- Use a flexible bottle or a clean plastic bottle without the lid. Squeeze out some of the air from the bottle then place the opening next to the yolk. Release the pressure from the bottle, allowing the egg yolk to be sucked up into the bottle, leaving behind the egg whites.
- Keep tilting the bottle back to keep the yolks away from escaping and repeat with the pressure of the bottle to pick up the remainder of the yolks.
When working with lots of eggs, this super quick method will have you separating eggs in seconds. Keep in mind that the bottle opening cannot be too large as it needs to keep the egg yolks inside. A standard water bottle works best.
5. Eggshell Method
Using eggshells to separate eggs is not recommended, particularly for the preparation of raw or low-cooked egg products. When an egg is cracked, there is a risk that any Salmonella bacteria on the shell can touch the egg white and end up in the bowl. This risk grows when a piece of broken egg shell falls into the raw egg or eggs are separated by passing the yolk back and forth between two shell halves.
The most important thing to know is that raw eggs should be consumed immediately after preparing them. If you're in an absolute pinch and cannot use any of the above egg-separating methods, here are some steps you should follow.
What You Need
- Eggs (cold eggs are best)
- 2 small bowls
- A clean surface or workspace
Steps
- Gently tap the egg on a flat surface to create a crack. Hold the egg over one of the bowls.
- Carefully pull the shell apart into two halves, keeping the yolk in one half.
- Over the bowl, pour the yolk back and forth between the shell halves, allowing the egg white to drip into the bowl below. Be gentle to avoid breaking the yolk.
- Once most of the egg white has dripped into the bowl, transfer the yolk to the second bowl.
