This project will deliver practical, evidence-based solutions to help Australian egg producers prevent and manage fowl cholera. Through a combination of farm surveys, longitudinal field studies, and genomic analysis of vaccine and field strain alignment, the project will identify the key drivers of disease outbreaks and evaluate the effectiveness of current vaccination strategies. Laboratory investigations will further improve understanding of the factors influencing vaccine consistency and performance.

The findings will be translated into best-practice prevention and management guidelines, supported by workshops, fact sheets, and other industry resources. These outcomes will equip producers with the knowledge and tools to reduce the risk and impact of fowl cholera, improve flock health and welfare, lower mortality and treatment costs, and enhance the long-term sustainability of the Australian egg industry.
