Hen ranging behaviour in relation to light and UV intensity

Hen ranging behaviour in relation to light and UV intensity

This project found that free range hens will avoid times of peak sun intensity and thus may not range as much during the summer months.

This project investigated UV light and light intensity and its effects on the ranging behaviour of free range hens.

The objectives of this project were to:

  • Test hen behaviour preferences for different UV and light intensity levels in a controlled indoor environment.
  • Test hen range use under different shade cloth conditions.
  • Validate hen behaviour and preferences for different UV and light intensity levels in a commercial free range environment.

Watch the below short videos to learn more about the project and it's outcomes.
